Summer of 10,000 Pucks!

What is it?

The MCYHA is bringing back the Summer of 10,000 Pucks challenge, to encourage all players to get 10,000 shots in before the next season begins.

To start, go to the HockeyShare website and register for an account, if you don't already have one. You only need one account, no matter how many players you have. They will all be listed as players under your account, similar to Crossbar.

In mid-March, you will receive a link to create your player(s) profile specific to their team(s). This way we can see how this season's teams are doing as a group as well as players individually.

The challenge will begin on March 15 and end on October 1, 2025.

How do I track shots?

Once registered and added to a team, you can track your players shots by going to the "Players" tab from the link above to add how many shots they've done in a certain day, broken down by type of shot.

How often should my player be shooting?

We recommend a little each day. Don't try to shoot too much in one day or they may injure themselves. The 10,000 shot goal is primarily for older shooters as well, younger shooters should feel free to shoot as much as they feel comfortable doing. They can set their own goal when you create their profile.

If you want to go for 10,000: there are 200 days from March 15 - October 1, so averaging 50 a day is all you need!

What if I don't have a net at home?

There are many alternatives to having to have a net. Really all you need is a target for them to aim for (and hopefully safe space around it in case they miss). One relatively cheap example is a 4' x 6' painted rectangle on plywood with laminate wall paneling for "ice", as seen below. Buff on a heavy coat of furniture polish and you have a pretty suitable shooting (and stick-handling) surface.
